48 Lincoln Academy musicians (32 vocalists and 16 members of the band) qualified for the Maine Music Educators District 3 Honors Festival, and were celebrated at the November 14 Friday Community Meeting along with their instructors Beth Preston (choir) and Liz Matta (band). While LA usually produces a large number of qualifying musicians, this year’s group is notably more successful than average. In the words of Choir teacher Beth Preston, “I’m very excited that of the 41 choir students that auditioned, 33 were accepted. We work very hard at the beginning of the year to help the students learn their audition pieces, and it paid off!”
To qualify for districts, each student performed required pieces from the classical repertoire, scales, and sight-reading in front of judges at Medomak Valley High School on October 20. Qualifying students will participate in rehearsals with other musicians from District 3 led by guest conductors on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31. There will be a final District 3 concert at 3:00 on Saturday, January 31 at Camden Hills Regional High School.
