Right before winter break we took the opportunity to visit and volunteer at the Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Edgecomb. The animals there are in need of love and human connection on a regular basis; there are only so many staff members on hand, and it is hard sometimes to give each animal the attention it needs. That is where volunteers like us come in: to spend time with the animals and help them to become the best pets they can be so that someone will adopt them and to give them the love and attention they need. This particular day, we spent our time with the cats.
And, of course, we fell in love.
There were a lot of older cats in need of adoption at the Shelter. Older cats tend to be less likely to be given a forever home, as most people would prefer a kitten. But, older cats need that love and attention too!
We left feeling good for the time we spent and a few of us quite sad that we could not take them all home right then. We will be back to volunteer another time!
