Lincoln Academy’s 2016 Alumni Weekend is June 3-5.

Lincoln Academy will celebrate its annual Alumni Weekend on June 3-5, 2016, starting the Friday after LA Commencement, which this year is on Thursday, June 2 at 4 p.m. “Alumni have been gathering every year since 1895,” said LA Alumni Coordinator Phil Page, who is organizing this year’s events along with the Alumni Council. “This is a long tradition at Lincoln.”

The first event is a reception on Friday, June 3rd, from 5-7 p.m. at Borland Hall, the home of Lincoln Academy Head of School David Sturdevant and his wife, Beth. This reception will celebrate the Class of 1966, which is celebrating its 50th Reunion, but all alumni are welcome to attend. As Page notes, “this event recognizes the efforts of so many that make Lincoln Academy the great school that it is.”

On Saturday, June 4th, LA alumni and their families are invited to participate in a full day of events, starting with campus tours that begin at 11:30 am and leave at the bottom of every hour through 3:30 p.m. from LA’s Cable-Burns Applied Technology and Engineering Center (ATEC), the new technology building located behind the LA gym. There is plenty of parking at ATEC, and no reservations are necessary to take a tour.

At 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. two LA faculty members will host “Back to School” sessions in LA classrooms. At 12:30 p.m. English teacher Seth Anderson will lead a discussion entitled “Ahead of the Tide: the Poetry of Edwin Arlington Robinson.” Robinson is a local poet who was born in 1869 in Head Tide. At 1:30 science teacher Anna Myers will host a session entitled “Science Education: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” Both sessions will be held in classrooms in Lincoln Academy’s Main building, and no registration is necessary to participate.

The traditional Alumni banquet will take place during the evening of Saturday, June 4th, in Lincoln Academy’s Alumni Dining Commons. Registration and Social Hour (which features music by Sean Fleming and a cash bar) start at 4:30, and dinner (which features the annual Alumni Council Awards and food by Stone Cove Catering) begins at 6:00. Class Agents of the classes ending in 1s and 6s have been encouraged to help fill a table with their classmates to ensure that every Reunion class is well-represented. During the Banquet attendees will again be tested with a round of trivia questions on the history of Lincoln Academy.

The cost of the reception and dinner is $30 per person, and main course menu items will include prime rib, chicken marsala, and stuffed haddock. Alumni are encouraged to register in advance of the dinner and reception by calling Phil Page at 563-3596 ext. 123 or emailing him at page@lincolnacademy.org.

Classes ending in 1 and 6 are celebrating Reunions this year, and many classes are hosting special class events. To find out more details about class events, or to pick up an Alumni Weekend brochure, please stop by the LA Alumni and Development Office at 4 Hillcrest Rd. or call 563-3599. “Alumni Weekend is a great chance to celebrate the traditions of LA, and bring old friends together,” said Page. “We look forward to seeing many familiar faces on Academy Hill in June.”
