One of the many athletic needs supported by the LA All-Sports Boosters is pool and track rental at the Boothbay YMCA to support the LA Swim and Indoor Track teams.

The Lincoln Academy All-Sports Boosters Club is a non-profit organization made up of parent volunteers whose mission is to raise, support and donate funds to the LA athletic department.

For over 20 years, the Boosters have raised thousands of dollars in contributions and reinvested it in LA teams in numerous ways. Booster support benefits every team and sport, as well as other organizations and clubs at school including both theater and debate. “We believe that Booster support has greatly enhanced each and every athlete’s or student’s experience at Lincoln Academy,” said Booster Co-President Maureen Dodge, who has been a volunteer with the Boosters for 10 years, more than half of those as President.

The Lincoln Academy All-Sports Boosters raise about $25,000 for Lincoln Academy athletics every year. The Booster Auction in November is the single biggest fundraising event, raising on average $10,000 in a single night. The other $15,000 is raised between Homecoming Weekend in September, when the Boosters run a chicken barbeque and a pie sale, and “the rest is in game concessions,” explained Sue Schumacher, who is the current Booster Co-President with Maureen Dodge, “All that popcorn really does add up!” Booster volunteers run concessions at basketball, soccer, wrestling, lacrosse, and field hockey games. They have stands both in the Nelson Bailey gym lobby, and at the William A. Clark turf field.

In the four years between 2011 and 2015 the LA Boosters donated almost $92,000 to various athletics programs at LA. Just over half of that has gone to uniforms and supplies, but the other $40K has gone to support programs and sports-related equipment and services that many people in the community might be surprised by, according to Dodge and Schumacher.

The LA field hockey team won the Class B South Good Sportsmanship Award in 2015. The LA All-Sports Boosters supported both uniforms for the field hockey team and the banner displayed in the gym to celebrate this honor.

Booster funds support rental for the pool time and indoor track at the Boothbay YMCA for the swim and indoor track teams. They have purchased a new scoreboard for the William A. Clark field, trophies for the pumpkin run and other events, golf bags, banners in the gym, and lacrosse goals. Booster funds also support scholarships, including the Matt Budrow Scholarship Fund, scholarships for graduating seniors, and summer camp scholarships. Finally, the LA Boosters fund Pride Cards for honor-roll students, video equipment, debate team events, and One Act play competitions. Next year the Boosters plan to pay for the purchase of a new wrestling mat.

All parents of athletes and other students are encouraged to become members of the Lincoln Academy All Sport Boosters. ”We are proud of the competitive successes of all of our athletic teams and in order to continue, we ask for your support and your participation in our fundraising efforts,” said Schumacher, who will continue as Co-President of the club next year. “It is a cause that can benefit all students and athletes, and help provide the best possible experience during their time at Lincoln Academy.”

The next Booster meeting will be in August. Interested LA parents and community volunteers are welcome to attend, or contact Sue Schumacher at 207-315-1590/ for more information.
