Lincoln Academy sophomores Ayla Liss and Kendra Bellefleur are spending the spring semester at Coastal Studies for Girls, a science and leadership semester school in Freeport, Me. Along with a heavy course load of Humanities, Modern Language, Math and Leadership, Ayla and Kendra are studying Marine Ecology along the intertidal zone of Casco Bay.
Ayla recently completed an original research project examining the effects of varying nitrogen concentrations on diversity and growth of phytoplankton and the implications for aquaculture and understanding eutrophication.
Kendra recently completed an original research project examining the effects of microplastic pollution on coastal Maine shellfish.
Both students presented the results of their research on April 21st at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute.
They both plan to return to Lincoln Academy in the fall for their junior year.
