Members of the public interested in learning more about Ballot Questions 2, 4, and 5 are invited to a public forum at Skidompha Library on Thursday, November 3 at 6 pm at Skidompha Library.
Students from the AP Macroeconomics classes and US Government & Politics at Lincoln Academy are partnering with Skidompha Library to host a public forum on three of the Maine Ballot questions facing voters this year. Students will introduce the questions and provide a brief summary of varying opinions on the questions. In addition, students have invited local experts and people associated with the ballot questions to support them in this discussion of the 2016 questions. Lincoln County’s own “Coastal Economist” Marcus Hutchins will be there along with Garrett Martin from the Maine Center for Economic Policy, Will Ikard from the Small Business Coalition, and Finn Melanson from the the League of Women Voters.
The student hosts have been examining questions 2, 4 & 5 in their classes at Lincoln Academy, and look forward to hearing from the public on these issues. “It’s our hope,” said teacher Kelley Duffy, “that this public forum will serve an important educational purpose for the students and that we can also provide a useful service to voters who are curious about these ballot questions.” Students have been enthusiastic about planning to forum. “I encourage them to look at these issues from all sides and to try to understand both the reasons people would support an issue and what they might be concerned about. I think students are genuinely curious to hear from the public.” This forum has been generously supported by Skidompha Library and is free and open to all.
