The United Way’s Community Read aloud takes place every year on March 2 to commemorate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and celebrate reading aloud. This year members of the Lincoln Academy Library team, along with librarians Cathi Howell and Jennifer Betts, visited Great Salt Bay Community School to read aloud to elementary school classrooms.

Howell, who has been organizing this activity for several years, said, “this was a lot of fun and the kids did a great job! I think it was fun for some of them to have a chance to go back to their ‘old school’ and also fun for them to think about what books they enjoyed when they were the age of the students they were going to read for. As always, they represented themselves and LA very well!  It was fun to peek into the rooms and see how engaged their listeners were!”

Can Yozgat, an LA junior from Turkey who read Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Hamm, said, “It was really exciting to read a story that they really paid attention to because they were familiar with the book.”

Freshman Anna Drake agreed. “It was a really fun experience and all of the kids were great listeners!”
