On Friday, March 30, the Lincoln Academy jazz bands will perform at the 12th annual Jazz Night and Dessert Auction in the Lincoln Academy Dining Commons. The auction preview will open at 6:30 pm, and music will start at 7:00. Admittance is free, but audience members are encouraged to bid on desserts in the auction.
This annual event showcases LA’s jazz ensembles and helps raise funds to support the school’s music program. Jazz fans and music lovers are invited to enjoy great music desserts made by parents and other volunteers.
The performance ensembles this year will be the Lincoln Academy Jazz Big Band, the Four O’Clock Jazz Combo and the Five O’Clock Jazz Combo. The Big Band is made up of high school musicians of all ages and abilities. The two smaller combo groups feature students with more jazz experience. All three groups are directed by Lincoln Academy band director and music teacher Liz Matta.
Desserts to be auctioned are created and donated by area bakers, students, and parents affiliated with LA’s music program. There is no entry fee for the concert but “we encourage jazz fans to bid early and often, and promise bragging rights for the dessert that sells for the highest price,” said Matta. “This is one of our most important fundraisers to support the band trip to New York City, and we count on our loyal fans to help out.”
This year’s event will be streamed via Facebook live on the Lincoln Academy News Facebook page, “but there is no substitute for live jazz!” said Matta. “We hope people will come out to hear our musicians rock the joint… or in this case the Dining Commons.”
Proceeds of this year’s Jazz Night and Dessert Auction will used to for the upcoming LA Band Festival Tour in New York City this April. To donate a dessert or request more information about the Jazz Night, please contact band director Liz Matta at email@example.com.
