On Sunday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. Lincoln Academy Lincolnaires, Concert Choir, and String Orchestra will perform a program that includes classical music dating as far back as the Renaissance period through current popular music. The concert will take place at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.
Sixty-eight students will be joined by three instrumentalists, Sean Fleming, piano, Doug Kennedy, bass and John Mehrmann, percussion. Lincolnaires will to join forces with the newly formed String Orchestra to sing two pieces from the movie “Les Choristes” and the lovely and lilting “Over the Sea to Skye.”
“This concert is going to be a real treat.” says Beth Preston, choral director. “The students get to sing with an orchestra and I get to work with my sister, Carol Preston, String Orchestra director.”
The choirs meet during the regular daily schedule and orchestra meets after school on Mondays. The students receive credit toward the Visual and Performing Arts graduation requirement. Concert Choir and String Orchestra are open to any student who would like to join with no audition required. Linconaires is an auditioned ensemble of predominantly juniors and seniors.
This year 23 students were accepted into Maine Music Educator’s District 3 Honor Choirs and 10 students were accepted into the All State Choirs. “This is our fundraising kick off for next spring’s trip to New York City,” says Preston. “We believe strongly that all kids should be able to travel whether they can afford it or not. All donations at the door, large or small, help make that possible.”
No reservations required. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For more information email email@example.com
