Young musicians at the Salt Bay Summer Orchestra day camp held at Lincoln Academy performed for an audience of family and friends Friday, July 20. At this final concert, 25 students, ages 7-15, played a variety of classical music, folk songs, and fiddle tunes. Many of these students live in Lincoln County, but others came from Bath, Lincolnville, Friendship, Liberty, and even vacationers from two other states.
Veteran music teachers Kaity Newell and Carol Preston teamed up to offer this five-day, string orchestra day camp. There were two half-day programs offered for violin, viola, cello, and string bass. The morning program was for experienced string instrument players, and the afternoon was for beginners or experienced students who wanted to learn a second string instrument.
Lincoln Academy sponsored the location for this event. Other assistance was received from Frost Gully Violins of Brunswick, Great Salt Bay Community School, Josh King (bassist), and Moore Music Legacy of Boothbay, and Volution string band.
