Resident Life Update – October 12, 2018

Another holiday weekend has come and gone.  Columbus Day weekend is a special one in the Mid-Coast of Maine.  The towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle host an internationally known event named PumpkinFest.  Thousands of visitors come to see giant record-setting pumpkins that adorn the streets of the town, carved and painted for spectators to see. People create boats from pumpkins and have a race in the local river, as well as drop pumpkins from high places into pools of water to see how big of a mess they can make!  The event is unique and bizarre but is a part of the culture of this town and we love it!  Our students had an opportunity to experience this while also lending a helping hand.  More than 35 of our students volunteered with the children’s “fun zone” to be a part of this epic event and help put smiles on the faces of many kids.  We are very proud of this student community as so many are willing to lend a helping hand in the lives of others.

We are approaching our first academic grading period. October 16th, the middle of the first trimester (Mid-Tri 1), is the point at which students and parents can view grades in every class. These mid-tri grades, while current, are not the grades that will be on a final transcript. Instead, this set of grades is a view halfway through the trimester, so students have time to make improvements. On November 16th, the next set of grades will show on their transcript as end of trimester 1 (T-1).

Mid-tri grades are a “photograph in time;” there is time for improvement.  Please remember that grades change on a daily basis and the best way to stay up to date with academics it to have open and honest communication with your student.

There are only a few spots left for students to sign up for the February and April vacation adventure camps.  Please click here to register so you don’t miss the opportunity: https://www.lincolnacademy.org/vacation-programming/
