Beth Preston and the Lincoln Academy Lincolnaires in front of the choir classroom trailer fondly knows as “Studio B”. Preston’s final concert as LA choir director will take place on Sunday, June 2, 7 pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.
Lincoln Academy music teacher and Choir Director Beth Preston will retire in June of 2019 after 24 years at LA. Her last concert with the Lincoln Academy students will take place on Sunday, June 2 at 7 pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle.
The concert will feature both choirs. Concert Choir will open the concert, singing pop and Broadway hits, including songs from “The Greatest Showman”, “La La Land”, and “A Star Is Born”. They also have some jazz classics, “Blue Moon” and “Summertime”. There is no audition to be in Concert Choir. Anyone in grades 9-12 who loves to sing and wants more training can join.
Lincolnaires, the advanced, auditioned ensemble, will perform the pieces they sang in competition in New York City which include repertoire of the Renaissance to present day composers. They will also be adding some jazz and a Chinese folk song, Mo Li Hua, accompanied by Wendy Qiu and Wenxin Liang. Lincolnaires will sing “Loch Lomond”, their traditional concert closer. Anyone who knows the tune is welcome to join them on stage.
A reception honoring Preston will take place immediately following the concert in the Parish Hall downstairs from the sanctuary at St. Patrick’s. After her retirement Preston plans to continue teaching private voice lessons and directing Tapestry Singers, and Heartwood Regional Theater Company. She will be forming a children’s choir that will begin rehearsals in September. For more information, email email@example.com.
