Jeffrey S. Burroughs started his tenure as Lincoln Academy Head of School on July 1, 2019.

I am tremendously excited and honored to take on the leadership of Lincoln Academy as its 44th Head of School. While I have been on campus and in town quite a few times since my appointment was announced in November, last week my wife Melissa and I became full-time residents of Borland Hall, and on July 1 I began my official duties as Head of School. Though I have been here a very short time, I have already started to glimpse the depth of the incredible community that supports Lincoln Academy.

On my morning walks with my dog Indy this week, I have found myself thinking about the power of town academies. Walking from Newcastle over the bridge into Damariscotta reminds me that for more than 200 years Lincoln Academy has endeavored to be a school–comprehensive in nature–that supports students from midcoast Maine as they find their path forward in life. As the school motto Finis Opus Coronat reminds us, “the end crowns the work.” For generations, a strong school has helped build a strong community and a strong community has helped build a strong school. I am committed to doing my part to continue this relationship with the community, and I am honored to serve as a steward of the school and its mission for years to come.

Melissa and I have been so warmly greeted by all of the people we have met as we find our way around town, and we look forward to more opportunities to get to know the people and places that make this community such a special place. When school starts up in the fall, I hope you will come to campus for a visit, or to watch a game, play, or concert, and see the long tradition of a Lincoln Academy education in action. Introduce yourself! I look forward to getting to know you and your LA story.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey S. Burroughs, Lincoln Academy Head of School
