On Saturday, October 19, the Lincoln Academy Varsity Debate Team hosted the annual Novice Debate Tournament Extravaganza on the LA campus. This is the first debate tournament in the Maine Forensic Association’s schedule each year, and is a chance for new debaters to practice their skills. Events include Congressional debate, Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Prose Reading, Poetry Reading and Oratorical Declamation.

“I’d like to thank the students who have worked so hard over the last several weeks to prepare for this tournament and our state champion varsity debaters, who served as coaches in this tournament,” said Kathleen Halm, Lincoln Academy social studies teacher and debate coach. The tournament welcomed over 90 students and 40 judges to the school for the entire day, and culminated in an awards ceremony in the afternoon, at which awards were given in every category. LA novice debaters and ninth graders Dean Tegerero and Aowyn Burbank won the Duo Interpretation in the Speech Division of the tournament.
