Lincoln Academy and Wreaths Across America will honor local veterans during a convoy stop on December 8 at the Lincoln Academy gym. The stop is one of hundreds between the wreaths’ origin in Columbia Falls, Maine and their final destination of Arlington Cemetery in Virginia, where Maine wreaths will be placed on the graves of fallen soldiers.

At each stop the convoy of about 50 vehicles and several hundred passengers, including veterans, Gold Star Families, and volunteers, join local communities to celebrate the Wreaths Across America values of “Remember, Honor, Teach: Remember the fallen, honor those that serve and their families, and teach the next generation about the value of freedom.” Each year, a new annual theme is chosen by the national organization to help local volunteers and supporters focus their messaging and outreach in our communities. This year, the theme is “everyone plays a part.”

The stop at Lincoln Academy will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, December 8, and include a program of about 45 minutes. During this program local school children, first responders, and veterans groups will honor the convoy participants with about 45 minutes of singing, dancing, and remembrance.

The convoy is scheduled to stop at 3:45, and the program will take place between approximately 4 and 4:45 pm. Because travel up Academy Hill will be very challenging for visitors once the convoy trucks are parked on Academy Hill, guests are asked to arrive by 3 pm. Guest parking is available in the student lot across from the LA gym or in the lower lots behind the soccer field.

There will also be an opportunity to honor the convoy when the trucks drive through downtown Damariscotta and Newcastle at approximately 3:40 pm.
