For the second year in a row, LA musicians Lucas Steinberger (bass) and Jarrett Gulden (tenor saxophone) have qualified for the All-State Jazz Festival, which takes place at South Portland High School on January 2-4, 2020.

“Qualifying for the All-State Festival is quite an accomplishment,” said band jazz band teacher Liz Matta. “These students have worked hard to achieve consistent excellence and I am incredibly proud of them.”

Both students study jazz with Matta through the LA jazz program, and both are members of the 5 O’Clock Combo, LA’s top combo that is available to hire for parties and events. The 5 O’Clock Combo, along with the 4 O’Clock Combo, the LA Big Band, Wind Ensemble, and Concert Band will perform their Winter Pops Concert on Sunday, December 8 at 6 pm at the Damariscotta Baptist Church. The public is invited to this concert, which is free, with optional donations at the door supporting the LA band trip to New York City in April, 2020.
