Lincoln Academy Director of Counseling and Studies Sarah Wills-Viega with LA seniors and National Merit Finalists Lucas Steinberger, Quinn Straus, and Aidan McCullen.
Three LA seniors, Aidan McCullen, Lucas Steinberger, and Quinn Straus, have been selected as National Merit Finalists. They became semifinalists last fall after achieving excellent scores on the PSAT exam that they took as high school juniors. Semifinalists are invited to complete an application, which includes writing an essay and submitting additional grades and test scores. According to the College Board website, the cutoff score for becoming a semifinalist varies by state and by year. Of approximately 15,000 Finalists nationwide, about half will be selected as National Merit Scholars. According to the National Merit Scholarship Program, “scholarship recipients are the candidates judged to have the greatest potential for success in rigorous college studies and beyond,” based on their academic achievements. Finalists will find out later this spring if they will be awarded National Merit Scholarships.
