Brooke Seiders ’20
Ceramics, Mr. Mess
My name is Brooke Seiders. I have lived in Bristol, Maine my whole life. Growing up I have always loved playing with clay, but art has never been something that I am good at. So this year I just experimented with different ways to use clay and glaze. Although more times than not my glazing ruined the piece, I am glad to have made mistakes that I can learn from. I am a fan of bright colors which not many people enjoy so I tried to darken up some of my pieces with black wash and India ink to provide contrast. Working with clay has made me realize how impatient I am. Sometimes I have to let my work sit for a few days before I can add more which is a struggle. So, then I start a lot of projects at once and it helps me stay creative because I have many different pieces to express my creativity. I do not think of my art as abstract or deep, I like making art that represents real things, but is pretty and can be expressed through clay.
