Emily Kelsey ’20
Ceramics, Mr. Mess
My name is Emily Kelsey and I live in Bristol, Maine. Throughout my years of taking art classes, I had never found anything within it that truly captured my attention. It wasn’t until my first basic ceramics class freshman year, that I found something that interested me. I’ve always been known to be on the slow side and enjoy taking my time, which shows in the abundance of pieces that I have made this year. I like to pay attention to details and create an interesting piece. I am also not really one to plan things out before I do it, I kind of just added and built on to my work as I went. I don’t have a particular theme throughout my artwork, although there are a few pieces that have ocean aspects to them. I may not be the greatest at throwing, but I do enjoy creating bowls and mugs on the wheel. I also loved sculpting my figure and creating things by hand. My sgraffito piece is my favorite because although it took a lot of time and attention to detail, it came out really cool. Through my few years of taking ceramics, I have learned that I have a creative side and enjoy paying close attention to details and designs. I have learned a lot from ceramics, not only about art, but about my creativeness and art abilities that will be useful for me for my entire life.
