Ceramics, Mr. Mess
My name is Emma Scott, and I’ve lived in South Bristol for most of my life. I’ve had the opportunity to take year long ceramics twice, so here are some of the things I have discovered. Adding surface designs and glazing are my favorite parts about ceramics. A lot of my work is inspired by nature; I include animals and plants in some of my pieces, and I mostly use earthy glazes. I enjoy throwing on the wheel, but I sometimes struggle with it; therefore, I kept the pieces that weren’t what some people considered “normal” and appreciated the uniqueness of what others might view as a mistake. I approach ceramics differently than I do many other things in my life. In my work, I don’t have a plan; I just figure it out as I go. I feel like I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so it’s hard for me when something doesn’t turn out the way I wanted it to, but ceramics has taught me that sometimes mistakes can be turned into the most beautiful creations.
