Zachary Farrin ’20
Ceramics, Mr. Mess
Hey! My name is Zachary Farrin, I’m 18 years young from the pine tree state (which should be renamed to the old folks home state). I have many hobbies, but I am most passionate for a lesser known sport, Motocross. I grew up with motocross being a big part of my life and it has brought me many joys in my life but has also gifted me with many tools and a drive to work hard and to do something to the best of my abilities. With that being said, I have taken my skills from motocross and the lessons I have learned and used them to display other hobbies, passions etc. via ceramics. As an artist I tend to stick to creating mostly bowls on the wheel. As mundane as it sounds it isn’t necessarily the bowls size, shape and composition that is my goal, but rather what I can do with them after I bisque them. Glazing has become an aspect to my art that really feels like my defining factor in my work. I constantly try new styles, techniques, but also attempt to stray from the “norm” and search for my own trademark style. I specifically fell in love with a rather messy, but fun way to glaze by taking my piece and dipping it in the background color and following I would take a brush big or small, wide or defined, and splatter my piece with a vibrant color to really make it pop. The reason I love this style is because it feels like I can create a piece that is so unique and cannot be replicated.
