Dear Friends and Family of Lincoln Academy,
Many of you have asked how you can support Lincoln Academy as we prepare for the upcoming school year. If you are in a position to help now, I invite you to consider two specific areas of need at Lincoln Academy, separate from the Annual Fund.
Technology to transform our educational program
During the last semester of the 2019-20 school year, our faculty and staff saw firsthand how remote learning and access to appropriate, effective content and technology can impact students and their families. However, the pandemic has also deepened the socio-economic divide in our catchment area and many students struggled to connect, participate and be productive learners while balancing the pressures and realities of their home lives. While the specifics of our fall program are dependent on the health and safety of our community, we are prepared to address these technology inequities. With your help we can strengthen Lincoln Academy for our students and community partners.
We have identified the equipment and software needed to provide equal access to technology for students, as well as improved tools for teachers. A team of administrators and faculty is developing a plan for the distribution of these devices and the support needed to keep them functioning efficiently for students. Additionally, this summer our Technology Integration Specialist, Stephanie Cheney, is teaching a 4-week course for faculty on the effective elements of remote education. Professional development for our faculty and staff will continue to strengthen their expertise in approaching students’ various learning styles.
Your gift designated to the 2020-21 Technology Fund will support our commitment to provide a personalized educational program designed to help us innovate beyond our current challenges.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training
A national dialogue about racial justice was set in motion just as the 2019-20 school year came to an end and we entered summer vacation without the chance to come together to reflect and move forward. As a school community we recognize that local and national change is necessary so that all people can fully realize their potential. We have developed an intentional process to involve all members of our school to build equity and inclusion at Lincoln Academy.
The administration at Lincoln Academy has identified several funding needs to build our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program. First, we will be asking all faculty, staff, and students to participate in the Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism developed by the National Association of Independent Schools. We will also invite and encourage parents and alumni to participate in the assessment, so please look for more information on this in the fall. Second, we are asking for funding to provide professional development and training to support the Lincoln Academy Curriculum Committee under the leadership of Kelley Duffy, our Director of Curriculum and Instruction. This group will utilize guidance from trainings and nationally recognized resources to ensure that our course offerings address how racism, discrimination, and civic engagement have played an essential role in our nation’s history and present-day struggle.
At Lincoln Academy, we value diversity of culture, race, identity, ethnicity, and socioeconomic opportunity and we are committed to providing and nurturing a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment for all students. We have work to do to fully realize the ideals espoused in our mission.
Your gift designated to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Fund will support a community dialogue on how to build curriculum in the areas of DEI.
Checks made out to Lincoln Academy can be sent to the Development Office. Online gifts can be made here or by clicking the Give to LA button below. You can designate your gift to the Technology Fund or the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Fund.
We appreciate your consideration of these special projects during this critical time, and for the Annual Fund, which will launch later in the fall. Your ongoing support for Lincoln Academy is an investment in the future of this region. Thank you for continuing to support our students, faculty, and staff.
