Faith is taking the first step when you don’t see the whole staircase.
–Martin Luther King, Jr.

“It feels good to be here, I’m so glad I’m back!” I heard an upper class student say this week, and I couldn’t agree more. Even with masks covering our faces and still trying to figure out how to smile with our eyes, having students in front of us in class is just wonderful.

As we’ve worked our way into the third week of this remarkable fall trimester and are starting to settle into rhythms of our ½ hybrid schedule, the campus really feels like a school again. Everywhere you look you see the hallmarks: students engaged with teachers and one another, banter in the hallways–socially distanced as it may be–and friendly greetings exchanged leaving class, you can’t help but break into a smile.

I certainly have felt the faith in Lincoln Academy as we have taken these first few steps together. While we certainly may not be able to see the whole staircase, we do know what a few of the steps below us look like and are finding confidence in our routines and traditions as we move into the chilly mornings of a fall in Maine.

I look forward to our remote student/parent and LAPA meetings this week and hope that if there is anything we can do for your family that you will let us know.

Be well and stay safe.
