Residential Life Update – November 23, 2020

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you`ll look back and realize they were the big things.”

― Kurt Vonnegut

Many little things and lots of hard work have come together to bring us to this point in the school year and this Thanksgiving I give thanks to you the students, staff, and families of Residential Life.  This has been a challenging fall, but when I look back at all the “little things” we have accomplished to return to school and a bit of normalcy I am buoyed by tremendous gratitude.  Thank you for being a part of LA’s Residential Life family and for our collective accomplishments so far this year.

We have completed the first trimester and are headed into a quiet holiday break.  Many activities have been modified to maintain community health and safety standards, but students will still enjoy Thanksgiving traditions including a holiday feast and retreat at Camp Kieve on Damariscotta Lake.

Please take note of a change to our schedule when we return from the holiday break.  The week of November 30th is now scheduled to be fully remote.  Students will attend classes from their dormitory, rather than attending in-person classes.  This decision was taken as a precautionary measure as we continue to see the rise of COVID-19 in our community, region, and state.  We will take this time to closely monitor our school community for health and safety before returning to in-person classes on December 7th.  If community conditions remain a concern, we may consider remote learning for more time.  Please know this step is being taken out of an abundance of caution as we are working very hard to ensure a safe and healthy community in the residence hall.  Lincoln Academy will also use this same approach when we return from the longer December vacation ending in early January – start with a week of remote classes, monitor conditions in the community, then return when we know it is safe to do so.

There are some important dates to note in the weeks ahead (please see list below).  Our second trimester begins November 30th and first trimester grade reports will be sent by email after the break. Winter vacation is December 18 – January 3 and travel will be restricted.  Please be in touch if you have any questions.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday,

Jake Abbott
