Residential Life Update – February 28, 2021

2021-02-28T13:48:27-05:00February 28, 2021|

One of the great pleasures I have in working with students from all over the world is sharing the diversity of our state with them throughout the seasons.  We’re experiencing spring-like temperatures today along the Maine coast, but there is still winter fun ahead for Res Life students including a ski trip to Sugarloaf,  ice fishing, and a chance to try the Camden Snow Bowl Toboggan Chute.

Maine is perhaps best known for our picturesque coastline and quaint seaside villages, but there are also majestic mountains, vibrant watersheds, rich farmland, and ancient forests.   There are opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, skating, ice fishing, sledding, snow tubing – winter is a great time to try a new activity in the Maine outdoors!  Spring (or as we like to call it, “mud season”) is right around the corner, so get in the snowy adventures while you can!

There are just two weeks remaining in the trimester.  Students in trimester-long courses should be working on final assignments and all students are encouraged to check-in with teachers about any grading questions.

Best regards,

Jake Abbott
Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life
Lincoln Academy

SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS:  Big Future Days College Fair
College Board is hosting BigFuture Days virtual events for high school students to connect directly with college admissions representatives. BigFuture Days will offer informational workshops, panel discussions, and interactive guided sessions on college planning topics. Sessions will run between 15–45 minutes in length. This event is meant for high school sophomores and juniors, but younger and older students are welcome as well as parents/guardians.

Attend the event to learn about the colleges and states included in that region.  Registration is for students only. Parents will receive separate log-in information when their child registers. Click HERE or on the individual links highlighted below to register for one or all of the virtual events.

JUNIORS ~ Register for the May 8th SAT Held at Lincoln Academy!
Due to pandemic-related facility limits, LA will not be offering the Spring 2021 SAT School Day exam that had been required of all Juniors in past years.  Due to space limitations, Lincoln Academy will be administering the May 8th SAT for no more than 30 Lincoln Academy students only. The registration deadline for the May SAT is Thursday, April 8, 2021. You can sign up for the SAT at www.collegeboard.org, through the profile that you used when you logged in to check your 2020 PSAT scores.  If you have not taken the PSAT or created a college board account, you will need to do so first before registering to take the SAT.

You can prepare for the SAT using resources found at www.khanacademy.org/SAT. Currently, the majority of four-year colleges and universities in the United States are test-optional admissions. We are not positive how long this practice will last if at all. Therefore, if a junior wishes to demonstrate their skills on a standardized exam we recommend taking the exam. Please speak with your guidance counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
