Students in Lincoln Academy’s IDEAL Program (Individually Designed Education for All Learners) tapped maple trees on the LA campus near Borland Hall in March of 2021, and boiled the sap outside of the ATEC building. “The kids are learning about the science concepts, such as tree identification and the rate of evaporation,” said IDEAL Director Janna Civittolo. “They are also gaining knowledge of the economics involved in production (which includes some Math, as well), which also ties into their U.S. History projects on local Maine industries.”
The students are also conducting a taste test in collaboration with Ms. McGreavy’s biology test, and quantifying the answers as part of a math lesson.
