Focus on Academics and Service

Last week included lots of fun as part of Residential Life’s Orientation.  We had a weekend full of activities that built friendships and introduced new students to the Coast of Maine:

  • outing to see the new Avengers movie
  • athletic games
  • made tye-dye shirts
  • Freeport outlet shopping
  • bonfire with Ambassadors
  • Windsor Fair
  • lobster boat ride
  • kayaking
  • traditional Maine lobster bake
  • new student arrival

After all that excitement, we turned our focus to academics and service.  Students are getting comfortable with their schedules, new classes, and routines.  Most courses have homework and students are utilizing study halls during the day as well as academic support and quiet study time in the dorms during the evenings.

This weekend we took part in an annual service learning project, building insulating window inserts, in partnership with the nonprofit organization Community Housing Improvement Program (CHiP).  The Residential Life team did a wonderful job with the project this year, learned new skills, and worked as a team in support of a community project that helps families in need.

Looking ahead, we’re anticipating more student arrivals in the coming weeks and we are looking forward to our annual Homecoming events at the end of the month.  Thanks for your support of all we do at LA!
