Homecoming Week

I want to start this message with my gratitude to all the students who took part in the recent community service project building window inserts for families in need.  All 17 Res Life students who were on campus participated, learning new skills and problem-solving as a team.  This annual event, in partnership with local nonprofit organization CHiP, lowers energy costs and helps families keep their homes warm during the cold winter months.  Special thanks this year to our student leadership team Alexandr Bederav (grade 12), Michal Maciejewicz (grade 11), and Marc Zoorob (grade 12).  Congratulations on a very successful project!

We are excited to welcome two new students this week and hope to have as many as four more international students join us before the end of the fall admission cycle.  Our diverse Res Life cohort this year includes students from the US and 12 other countries across the globe.  A big welcome to all of our new students!

As Covid continues to surge in the wider community we have made adjustments to our health and safety protocols.  We continue to distance and test any students with potential exposure.  We are also now masking in all dormitory common areas.  Click here to review our latest Health and Safety Bulletin.

The coming week includes our annual Homecoming celebration.  This year’s events will include a parade with student musicians and teams marching (at a distance) up Academy Hill from the downtown area.  Students, staff, and alumni will be showing their Eagle Pride with dress-up days, competitions, a cookout, an outdoor movie, and athletic events.  More Homecoming details are below.  We are also celebrating the start of the fall season with apple picking, cozy fires, and hikes.

Wishing everyone a happy start to the Homecoming week!

2021 Homecoming:  Back to the Future

Homecoming is happening this year with the following safety precautions:

  • The parade will take place with no floats. All participants will march, wearing masks, keeping distance between people.
  • The band will march further apart than usual, with bell covers over wind instruments.
  • There will be no dance or bonfire, just open turf and a cookout on Friday
  • Only safety vehicles will be allowed in the parade.
  • Additional bleachers will be on site at the William Clark Field to create additional seating, since there will be no Spirit Float for students to sit on
  • Spectators on the LA campus are asked to wear masks when they can’t keep a safe distance from others.

NEW EVENT! On Friday LA students are invited to an outdoor screening of the 1985 movie Back to the Future, which will be shown on the Track Field at 7:30.
