Headed into Fall with Homecoming

It is a beautiful time of year to be in Maine, the leaves are starting to change color, and with crisp fall air comes apple picking, pumpkins, and other seasonal activities.  This past week we embraced the school tradition of Homecoming.  This year’s theme was “Back to the Future.”  Our parade was rained out, but we made up for it with a rally at the end of the school day on Friday, dress-up days, watching Back to the Future in the dorms, sporting events, a doorway decoration contest, and lots of school spirit!

After the initial excitement of the start of classes, this is traditionally the time of year when students begin to feel more challenged by coursework and the adjustment of being away from home.  Now is a good time to focus on academic goals, build good study habits, and find a balance between schoolwork and other activities.  Res Life staff work hard to make regular check-ins with students as they navigate the feelings that come with the ebb and flow of the school year. Please be in touch with your student to see how they are settling into the year and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  Teachers and staff are here for you!

Looking ahead to next weekend we’ll be offering a white water rafting trip on a classic Maine river, start to see decorations around town in celebration of Pumpkinfest, and be looking forward to the uniquely American tradition of Halloween.  It’s wonderful to share this special time of year with our community!
