Orientation Week and Maine Fun

It’s wonderful to have new students arriving and there is much to celebrate together as we discover and rediscover the things that are so special about being a part of the LA community.  We now have 20 Residential Life students on campus from Maine and 12 countries around the globe.  It has been over a year since school was open with a traditional schedule and there have been many orientation activities to help everyone readjust to the routines of school life. Everyone is settling into dormitory rooms and classrooms, making new friends, and seems excited for the year ahead.

It is a busy time of year for the Res Life Office, not just in helping everyone get moved in, but also in introducing students to the seasonal sights and activities for which Maine is known.  Last weekend we enjoyed a nearby hike by the coast, a trip to a famous Maine beach, lots of laughter, and “getting to know you” time.  This week’s focus has been on orientation activities and our Kickoff the School Year Weekend includes a trip to the Windsor Fair, ocean kayaking, a lobster boat tour, and a traditional Maine lobster bake at the scenic US landmark, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse.

This group of students is bonding well and it is truly a pleasure to have the dorms full of their laughter and energy after a quiet summer.  Thank you for your trust in LA and for making our school a special place.
