Residential Life Update – October 10, 2021

Giant Pumpkins and the Mid-Tri

This week giant pumpkins “rolled” into downtown Damariscotta and Newcastle in celebration of Pumpkinfest.  While we don’t expect the large crowds of previous year’s celebrations, there are still outdoor events and pumpkin-themed artwork on display.  Students are encouraged to explore downtown to see artists at work and their creations.  There will be a pumpkin scavenger hunt and prize to the student team with the most pumpkins photographed.

October 7th was the mid-way point in the first trimester and parents will receive their student’s mid-trimester grade report this month.  These are not final grades, but a snapshot of academic performance so far this year.  Please be in touch with teachers, advisors, and Jose Cordero in the Career and Academic Counseling Office with any questions or concerns.

In addition to Pumpkinfest celebrations, this weekend includes a day off for students on Friday for teacher workshops and the Indigenous People’s Day holiday on Monday.  The Residential Life Office is offering trips to the scenic seaside town of Rockland, ice skating, a Monhegan Island Trip, movies, and a ropes course challenge. It is a good time to relax, recharge, and be ready for the 2nd half of the trimester.

Sincerely,

Jake Abbott
Dean of Students and Director of Residential Life
Lincoln Academy

Highlight on Advisors

Building relationships is a big part of the high school experience and one important relationship for all of our students is their advisor. Each student has an advisor who continues to serve as the student’s advisor through graduation. The primary roles of an advisor are to be a regular point of contact for the student, to be a trusted adult who will check-in and nurture the student’s ability to self-advocate, and to monitor grades and attendance. Students meet with their advisors daily, and parents and students should expect that advisors will be well informed on their advisee’s progress in all areas of school life. Parents are therefore encouraged to contact their student’s advisor whenever they have questions or concerns regarding the student’s progress.
