Pre-pandemic performances by the LA Bands and Choirs. This year’s concerts will take place on December 5, 12, and 16. More details are below!
The Lincoln Academy Performing Arts department is moving ahead with winter concerts this year after online concerts in 2020, and outdoor concerts in the spring of 2021. Audience members are invited to the four concerts dates listed below, and are required to wear masks in all venues.
- Sunday, December 5, 2:30 pm at the Damariscotta Baptist Church: Winter Pops Wind Ensemble and Concert Band Concert
- Sunday, December 5, 4:30 pm at the Damariscotta Baptist Church: Winter Pops Wind Ensemble and Concert Band Concert
- Sunday, December 12, 6:30 pm at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle: Sounds of the Season Choir Concert
- Thursday, December 16, 7 pm in Poe Theater: Jazz Big Band and Combo Concert
In scheduling the winter 2021 concerts, “the safety of musicians is our first priority, followed closely by ensuring that performers can have their family and friends in attendance,” said LA Band teacher Liz Matta.
Typically the instrumental music concert is called the ‘Winter Pops!’ and features Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combos and Strings. This year, Matta has split the large ‘Winter Pops!’ concert into two dates. Sunday, December 5 will feature Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and String Orchestra at the Damariscotta Baptist Church. This concerted will be repeated at 2:30 pm and 4:30 pm to accommodate a smaller audience at each concert.
“There are a total of 56 students performing with Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. There are 28 ninth and eleventh graders in the concert and 28 tenth and twelfth graders in the concert. With an even split of student performances, we feel there will be ample space for those family and friends, as well as room for members of the public to attend,” said Matta.
With this in mind, ninth and eleventh grade families/guests are asked to attend the 2:30 pm concert. Tenth and twelfth grade families/guests are asked to attend the 4:30 pm concert. If a family member has a conflict with the “requested” time, they should attend the other concert time. The split will allow enough space for students to invite family outside of their immediate family: grandparents, cousins, neighbors.
The Sounds of the Season Choir Concert will take place on Sunday, December 12 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle. Audience members are invited to attend, masks will be required and spacing recommended while inside the church. Since St. Patrick’s has a larger capacity there will only be one choir concert time.
The Jazz Concert on Thursday, December 12 at 7:00 pm will feature Jazz Band and Jazz Combo in the Poe Theater. Audience members will be required to wear masks during the concert. Because the jazz band contains fewer musicians, the seats in the Poe theater should accommodate all guests.
“We are thrilled to be able to perform in person this year, and we look forward to seeing you at the concerts!” said Matta.
