Residential Life Update – January 9, 2022

2022-01-09T22:56:56-05:00January 9, 2022|

Welcome Back and Happy 2022!

It’s great to have everyone back on campus for the start of 2022!  Return travel after the holiday break went smoothly and we are grateful to everyone who supported this effort.  A very warm welcome to Laura, Antonia and Charlotte from Germany; Brenda from Brazil; Ricardo from Mexico; and Vittoria from Italy!  We are so pleased to have these new students joining the Residential Life Community this month and hope this weekly newsletter will help you, your families, and agents stay informed of activities and important community events.

Covid-19 Booster Shots will be available at Lincoln Academy’s Health Center on Thursday, January 13 and will be provided to all residential students who are 5 months past their vaccination date.  Please contact me with any questions or concerns regarding student vaccinations.

Friday was our first significant snowfall this winter and students across Maine embraced the first “snow day” of the year.  This beloved experience for children throughout New England was much enjoyed by our students and staff who went sledding, built snowmen, and enjoyed games with their dorm friends.

Looking ahead, there are many opportunities for students to take part in winter activities including a polar bear dip this weekend, skiing, skating, ice fishing, and even a dog sled experience.  This month also includes the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 17.  All members of LA are encouraged to reflect on the important themes of community service and social justice in celebration of Dr. King’s legacy.

Please take note of the January 28 deadline to submit plans for Winter Break.  There is still time to register for Winter Camp at Kieve-Wavus, more details are below.

The dormitory will be closed for both of these school vacations and you must make plans for your student to be off-campus for these dates. Travel plans for Winter Vacation are due no later than January 28, 2022.

If your student does not have travel plans for the Winter Vacation they can register for Winter Camp at Kieve-Wavus Leadership School.  The camp is located on beautiful Damariscotta Lake and activities will include snowshoeing, skiing, skating, tobogganing, relaxing by the fire, hot cocoa, and art museums. The program fee for winter camp is $850. Please register today so we can reserve a space for your student!

Looking ahead to Spring Vacation in April, students will have the opportunity to sign up for a trip with the Abbott Family to Mertle Beach in South Carolina.  More details, including travel costs, will be available in the coming week.
