Every year Lincoln Academy presents book awards to members of the junior class. This long standing tradition recognizes academic excellence, community service, and intellectual curiosity. Here are the 2022 Junior Book Awards and recipients.

The Brandeis University Book Award is given to an exceptional high school junior in the top 15 percent of the class who demonstrates a commitment to civic engagement, community service, political activism, social justice, or volunteer work. This year’s recipient is Izzy Petersen.

The Dartmouth College Book Award is given to a student in the top 10% of the junior class who has made a significant extracurricular contribution to their school, and is respected by their peers and faculty. This year, the Dartmouth College Book Award is given to Olivia Nixon.

The Bowdoin College Book Award recognizes a high school junior who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the common good and an unusual passion for inquiry, discovery, and innovative thinking. This year’s recipient is Iris Pope.

The Yale University Book Award recognizes outstanding high school juniors for their character, leadership, scholarship, and intellectual promise. The Yale University Book Award is given to Margaret Kastelein.

The Williams College Book Award is given to a junior who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and has made a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the school. This year the recipient is Liam Card.

The Smith College Book Award recognizes a young woman in the top tenth of her class who exemplifies the academic achievement, leadership qualities, and concern for others that characterize the thousands of women who have graduated from Smith College. This year’s recipient is Aowyn Burbank.

The College of the Atlantic Book Award is given to a student who is an adventurous junior who is invested in creating positive change in the world, and is engaged in their learning and their community. This year, the College of the Atlantic Book Award is given to Bella Herring.

The St. Thomas University Book Award is given to a student in the junior class who has demonstrated leadership and strength in all academic areas, and especially strong writing skills. This year’s recipient is Mara Abbott.

The Suffolk University Book Award goes to a member of the junior class who exemplifies a commitment to their education and school community. This year, the Suffolk University Book Award is given to Michaela Lacrosse.

The Ruth Ives Humanitarian Award recognizes a junior who has exemplified the spirit of Ruth Ives in volunteering and helping their community. This year’s recipient of the Ruth Ives Humanitarian Award has volunteered at the Bristol Library, is a Prom Committee member, a committed member of the Unified Basketball team, among other things. This year, the Ruth Ives Humanitarian Award is awarded to Abby Holladay.

The Isabelle Manahan Courage in Kindness Award is given in honor and memory of Isabelle Manahan ‘21 who died in a car accident at the end of her freshman year at LA. This award has been established here at Lincoln for a member of the sophomore class. This award recognizes a student who has demonstrated a spirit similar to Isabelle’s courage, kindness, sense of self, and attitude toward others. This year the recipient of Isabelle’s “Courage in Kindness Award” is Jillian Chadwick.
