Residential Life Update – May 22, 2022

2022-05-12T07:41:03-04:00May 22, 2022|

Residential Life was well represented at Prom this year with students dressed in their best to dance and enjoy a special night with their friends. It was a memorable event and photos will be available on the LA Flickr site:

Memorial Day Weekend Reminder: The last weekend before graduation is also a holiday weekend.  May 28 – May 31 is full of fun events including an oceanside camping trip, ocean kayaking, barbecues, and a lobster bake!  We will be sure to have a lot of fun.  This weekend also includes a community-sponsored spring event that members of the community have designed and sponsored.  After a lot of discussion, I have decided not to have residential students participate in this event.  This decision has been made in what I access as the best interest of the safety of the student community.  As an alternative, I have planned a much-anticipated dorm camping trip with ocean kayaking.  We will have other fun events will be on the schedule and we are strongly encouraging all students to attend these special Residential Life activities.  If you have specific questions about this, kindly reach out directly to me.

The final newsletter of the school year will be next week and with it will be all the important details for the last week of school!   We are looking forward to welcoming some family and friends to campus for end-of-year events, participating in Senior Week, and celebrating the accomplishments of the 2021/2022 school year!  Thank you to our students, staff, and families for all their hard work and contributions this year!

End of Year Details

Closing the dorm and moving students out is an active and complex process.  Along with departure dates (Seniors are expected to be out of the dorm by the end of the day on Saturday, June 5th, and underclassmen the following week, on Friday, June 10, 2022) we also include the process of packing and cleaning rooms, sorting items no longer wanted, supporting shipping of items that won’t fit in suitcases, and ensuring that records, medications, and other controlled items are accounted for.  Please work with your son/daughter to ensure that they understand the need to be organized and efficient as we start asking them to take on these tasks.

For students returning to LA next year, we offer the service of summer storage of items on campus.  Things must be boxed and well labeled.  For anyone not returning, all personal belongings must be packed, disposed of, or shipped prior to leaving campus.  These steps and dates are important to adhere to and with any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.  We have already begun to accept Orah requests for end-of-year departure and the sooner those plans are confirmed, the easier it is for us to plan the details.
