This week’s focus has been on orientation activities on campus. Freshman met their teachers and started classes on Wednesday and all other students began school on Thursday. Each individual grade met together to set school and academic expectations and to celebrate the year ahead. On Friday, the entire school community came together for the first full school community meeting. Each class was attended and students chose their focused learning blocks for the first trimester. During the coming week, students will continue getting familiar with their classes, teachers, classmates, and campus routines.
This past weekend in the USA was a holiday weekend in celebration of Labor Day. This provides an extra day off and plenty of opportunities to play. Students went roller skating, hiked Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park, enjoyed rides and exhibits at the Windsor Fair, and gathered to celebrate a student’s birthday around the fireplace outside the dorm. Today we enjoyed a quiet rainy day together with movies and snacks. This evening our dorm community was joined by friends to celebrate the start of our school year together with a traditional Maine lobster dinner.
As we prepare to dig into the academic realm over the next weeks, we will also start in-dorm study hall and start planning out autumn activities that include more Maine favorites like apple picking, foliage tours, whitewater rafting on one of Maine’s most pristine rivers, and get the whole community for the annual Pumpkinfest. There is so much fun to be had and we will do it all!
Also, as we move into fall, the State of Maine will soon be providing everyone over the age of 12 with a new Omicron-based Covid-19 booster. This will be a required vaccination for our full dormitory to help keep students and the full community safe and sound as we move into the colder months ahead. We will also provide our students with the annual flu shot. Look for more information on this in the weeks to come.
As always, please be in contact with anything that comes up you feel we should know and we will do the same as we build our amazing community of learners here at Lincoln Academy.
