Residential Life Update – October 31, 2022

Happy Halloween and Welcome to November

Many students took the opportunity to dress up on Friday for Halloween festivities on campus where we hosted a community event called Trunk-o-Treat.  Residential Life students helped out with outdoor games, a photo area, and a coloring table for children.  Weekend activities included Halloween baking and scary movies, and tonight students will don costumes to join trick-o-treaters walking door-to-door in Newcastle and Damariscotta collecting goodies.

We are looking forward to enjoying the school’s production of Les Misérables on November 3.  This sold out show is the first traditional theater production on campus since the start of the pandemic and we are excited to support the members of our Dorm Family that are part of the cast and crew (Bravo to Jacqueline Pelletier, Olive Siegel, Giulia Geirola, and Marianna Janik!).

The first trimester ends on November 18.  Academic support is always available during Focused Learning Block and during our evening study hall in the dormitory.  Students should be in touch with their teachers if they have any questions or concerns heading into the final weeks of the trimester.

As we wrap up the fall sports season, LA Field Hockey received the 2022 Good Sportsmanship Award (congratulations to Misha Oppenhoff and the rest of the team!).  Our Cross-Country Teams had a fantastic day at the state meet on Saturday (girls finished 2nd and boys 7th), and both teams won the Class B South Good Sportsmanship Award (congratulations to Maja Wolffgang, Nick Young, Arsen Mikaelyan, Flora Angyal, and their teams!).  Winter sports sign-ups are happening now, with the season starting in just a few weeks.

The American Holiday of Thanksgiving is November 24 and we will have more details on activities for Thanksgiving week in our next newsletter.  Please mark your calendar for the upcoming school vacations in November, December, February and April.  The dorms will be closed December 17, 2022 – January 2, 2023.  Students or families need to have plans submitted in Orah by November 18th.
