Start of Trimester 2

Welcome to the start of the second trimester.  Grade reports for the first trimester were sent out by email on Wednesday, November 30.   Please contact us if you didn’t receive these grades.

The holiday season in Maine is in full swing, our downtown area has been decorated with garlands and lights, and last weekend we cut and decorated a holiday fir tree for the dormitory.  We will be offering many seasonal activities in December including ice-skating, indoor trampoline time, shopping trips, a holiday gift exchange, concerts, and indoor rock climbing!

Most students will have started new elective classes in the second trimester.  Winter sports have also begun and with this, new patterns, routines, and interests.  Please check in with your son/daughter to see how the second trimester has started for them.

As we prepare for the upcoming vacation we will be saying goodbye to three members or our residential community.  Andre, Gustavo, and Tristan will be returning home as their experience is complete.  We have been so thankful to have them as members of our community and we will miss them dearly.  We will also welcome six new students to the dorm community.  Three from Vietnam, one from Brazil, and two from the US!

We have just two weeks (ten school days) until our December holiday break and two-week dorm closure.  Please be thinking ahead about student plans for the remainder of the school year.  There is still time to register for February Break Camp at Kieve-Wavus and the April Break trip to Washington, DC with the Cordero Family (space limited!).  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Career and Academic Counseling

Lincoln Academy is excited to welcome 8th graders next week from the area schools! They will be on campus Monday, December 5 through Thursday, December 8th from 8:45-11am.
Your school counselor will submit your first trimester grades this week. Your admission portals will update within 24-48 hours. Please confirm that your applications are complete. Reach out to your School Counselor with any questions.

Please email the admission officer responsible for your geographic region (you can find this information on their website) with an update. Let your admission officer know that your school counselor will be sending your first trimester grades this week, and also give them an update of anything that may have changed since submitting your application (i.e. starting a new athletic season, auditioning for One Acts, winning an end of season award, an upcoming holiday performance, etc.). Ask your school counselor if you have questions or concerns.

Collegeboard will release the results for the October PSAT December 5th-6th. Please encourage your student to set up a College Board account or log into their account this week, so that they have access once scores are released.

Over the past two years, many schools have gone testing optional and many have committed to a 5 or 3-year testing optional plan however, there are significant differences between the testing policies between schools. With that, we want to make sure our students have access to all options. Junior meetings will begin when we return from the holiday break and we will have an evening program including parents and guardians to further discuss the college process and application timeline. During this meeting we will discuss testing, but here is some useful information to know prior to this meeting:

This winter and spring, CollegeBoard will administer the SAT on 3/11/23, 5/6/23, and 6/3/23. To sign up for one of these tests you will need to log into CollegeBoard and select the date and location. (Lincoln Academy will administer the test in May.) You can talk with your school counselor about your testing plan, but we advise students to take the test twice with sufficient time in between each test to be able to receive the score back and to prepare. Each student’s testing plan is different and some may choose to take the test after the summer (8/26/23, 10/7/23). Again, please speak with your school counselor if there are questions or concerns.

Please remember that testing is only one piece of the application (and some students may not need any testing for their college process). The student’s transcript is the most important piece of any application. Your student’s junior year and their academic experience should be their first priority. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s counselor.
