Residential Life Update – January 9, 2023

January in Maine

It has been a pleasure to have students and staff back on campus after the holiday break.  Despite a few travel delays, all of our residential students are settled back in the dorm and our community welcomes several new students including Jake and Sol from the United States, Julia from Brazil, and An from Vietnam.

Mid-trimester grade reports will be sent to families this month by email.  Mid-trimester grades do not appear on final transcripts but are a good indicator of how students are doing academically so far this year.  Please let us know if you have any questions about grading or academic support.

The dormitory will be closed for school vacations February 18-26 and April 15-23.  Travel plans for February break are due by January 20th.  There is still time to register for Winter Camp at Kieve-Wavus.  As a reminder, the Approved Travel Dates for 2022/23 and 2023/24 are linked below:

More snow is on the way and we are looking forward to winter events over the next few weeks including skating, downhill skiing at Sugarloaf, and Winter Carnival. It’s an exciting time of year to be in Maine!

LA Career Exploration Series

Lincoln Academy’s Career Exploration series kicks off this Thursday, January 5 and will continue on Thursdays throughout the winter.

January 5: Meet Adam Jeffers and hear from LA’s Kate Mess about their experiences as freelance graphic designers.

January 12: Thomas Balch is a software engineer who works on robotics and autonomous driving research at the Toyota Research Institute. He is a 2008 graduate of LA.

To sign up for a session, ask your advisor to enroll you in the Thursday ‘Career Panel’ FLB.

The Career Exploration sessions are your opportunity to have a casual conversation with professionals in specific fields. Learn how they got started and what their day-to-day work life involves. Students in all grades are welcome and can sign up in their advisor group.
