Homecoming and a taste of Fall!
We’ve had some wild weather this past week, complete with 90 degree temperatures and a hurricane! By the time the storm called Lee passed us by, it had been downgraded to a tropical storm. Although we were prepared with fully charged phones, flashlights and provisions, the Lincoln Academy campus sustained no damage, nor any power failures. We weathered the storm with movies, snacks and, later in the day, a trip to the YMCA to work off that sugar. The temperatures are feeling much more comfortable now, providing a bit of relief to us all. Although our apple picking adventure was canceled due to rain, our fall activities will continue with this coming weekend’s Homecoming celebrations!
Homecoming is an American tradition that celebrates the history of a school or organization by welcoming back alumni to celebrate its traditions. This week, we will mark homecoming with athletic and class competitions, 5K road race, a parade with our teams and musicians, a dance, and dress up days. This year’s Homecoming theme is Pirates, and students, staff and alumni will be coming together to show their Eagle Pride at events all week. Check out this week’s fun on our Flickr page! A full schedule of Homecoming events are on our website.
Two field trips are happening this week in the midst of Homecoming. AP Environmental Science students will be at the Common Ground Fair on Friday. Meanwhile, Integrated Science and Honors Biology students will be at Reid State Park participating in Coastal Clean Up. Coastweek is a national celebration of our coastal resources. In Maine, the annual Coastal Cleanup is the biggest volunteer event in the state. Last year, 533 volunteers removed 2580 pounds of garbage from 56 miles of waterfront! These two trips address important academic goals, while also allowing 9th graders to engage in community service.
Wishing you well and please be in touch with any questions or concerns.
