Welcome to the New School Year!

Lincoln Academy’s Residential Life Program is starting the new school year with 34 students from all over the world.  The dorm has been buzzing with the sounds of happy reunions, competitive games of Ping Pong, and lots of unpacking.  Of our dorm residents, 22 are new to Lincoln Academy. This allows our returning students the opportunity to give tours and orient new students to the campus and our systems. Returning students have embraced this leadership opportunity, and we look forward to expanding those opportunities in the coming months.  One of those opportunities will be a service project in collaboration with CHiP (Community Housing Improvement Project).  Students will be constructing window inserts, which help local families insulate their homes this winter. That service project will take place on September 9, and is mandatory for all resident students.

Our first students began arriving during the week of August 13 for pre-season athletics.  Those students have kept busy organizing their rooms, organizing schedules and getting to know each other.  Day trips into town, for example, help familiarize students with Newcastle, Damariscotta and the great Midcoast Maine area.  Students enjoyed a trip to Round Pond, where they explored the LaVerna Preserve hiking trails and beautiful ocean views.  Last weekend, a group traveled to Portland to cheer on Maine’s AA baseball team, the Portland Sea Dogs.  Evening activities have included karaoke and movie nights, as well as trips to get ice cream and swimming!

This week marks the start of school with freshmen beginning on Wednesday the 30th and all students beginning on Thursday, August 31.  This coming weekend is the 3-day holiday weekend and we will be celebrating Labor Day with a traditional lobster bake at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse (a special historic site featured on the Maine State Quarter!).

We are celebrating Monica Tan’s second year in her position as Director of Residential Life, where she will continue to provide families and students excellent communication and support during the academic year.  Monica will continue in her role as dorm parent.  Jake Abbott will continue in his role as Dean of Students and dorm parent and is looking forward to working closely with Monica and the rest of our Residential Life Team this year.

Please be on the lookout for the weekly newsletter for important updates, events, and photos of our first few days on campus.

Sincerely,

Monica Tan
