Welcome to November: Bundle Up!

The temperatures have cooled over the last few days, and the days are now shorter.  On Sunday morning, we moved our clocks back by one hour to align with Daylight Savings Time.  Originally implemented to save energy costs by using more daylight hours, we really feel the difference around 5pm, when it begins to get dark.   That means our evening walk up to the dining commons for dinner is now in the twilight.

We have several shopping trips planned over the weeks, which are a  good opportunity to purchase winter clothes.  All students should have a warm jacket, hat, and gloves to be ready to enjoy winter activities.  These common items are available in many stores at reasonable costs.  Our upcoming trips to the Maine Mall, Target and Freeport are excellent opportunities to purchase these items.

The end of the first trimester is just two weeks away and coincides with the start of Thanksgiving break.  Please pay close attention to assignment deadlines and be in touch with teachers and staff with any questions or concerns.

Thanksgiving break is November 20-26 and it is our first vacation of the school year.  The dorms will remain open, and we have made plans for all of our students based on their travel plans. Thank you for submitting your information to Orah. The Residential Life program provides holiday activities for all students remaining with us in the dorms,  including a traditional Thanksgiving meal at Camp Kieve on Wednesday.  On Thursday, Thanksgiving day, each student will be invited to attend Thanksgiving celebrations with local families from our community.

Mark your calendar for the upcoming school vacations in December, February and April when the dormitories will be closed.  We do have some special programs offered during breaks including Winter Camp at Kieve-Wavus in February   Students or families need to have plans for December break submitted in Orah by November 18th.

Be well and take care,

Monica Tan

If a student wishes to stay with a host family during vacation, the student’s family will be charged a daily fee of $65 per day per student by Lincoln Academy. A vacation homestay stipend will be paid to the vacation host family to defray the cost of food, transportation, and entertainment expenses.
