Eric Duffy has had a varied career, centered around three fields: emergency medical
care, education, and wilderness tripping. He is a Registered Nurse, a Wilderness and
Maine EMT, and a Registered Maine Guide. Eric holds a BA in English from Stonehill
College and an MA in Theology from Acadia University in Nova Scotia. He is a lead
instructor for Wilderness Medical Associates International, and regularly teaches
intensive courses in emergency medicine that has been adapted for remote settings.
Before becoming a nurse Eric taught English and outdoor education at Hebron
Academy; supervised the paddling programs at L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery
Schools; spent several years working seasonally as an EMT in the winter and a sea
kayaking guide in the summer; and was the health care coordinator at Chewonki.
Before joining LA’s health center staff, Eric spent three years working as a nurse in
the Emergency Department at Miles Memorial Hospital.
