Liz Matta is a native of Foxborough, Massachusetts. She credits her many great musical experiences in Foxborough, including performing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and being challenged to think like a band director from an early age by Steve Massey and Ted Hagarty, as the reasons she has such a passion to work with kids, teach music and continue to perform.
Ms. Matta has been the Lincoln Academy Band Director since 2006. Under her direction, the Lincoln Academy Band Program doubled in student participation and in the number of instrumental performing ensembles offered in just her first four years. Lincoln Academy bands regularly receive gold ratings at state and national competitions, and her student musicians place at regional and state competitions every year. Ms. Matta directs the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, String Ensemble, Jazz Big Band, the Four and Five O’clock jazz combos and teaches Advanced Placement Music Theory.
Ms. Matta is the Program Director of “Maine Music Outreach”; a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower Maine high school musicians to make a difference in the lives of others. With MMO, Liz has trained and lead groups of high school student volunteers to work and play at the Holy Trinity Music School’s Summer Music Camp in Cange and the CEMUCHCA Summer Music Camp in Cap-Haïtien since 2012.
Ms. Matta has worked with bands and jazz bands throughout New England as a clinician and guest conductor. In addition to teaching, Ms. Matta can be heard playing as a freelance saxophonist. She enjoys reading, hiking and enjoying time with her family.

Mr. Manahan came to Lincoln Academy in 1999 from a background in experiential education particularly aboard sail training vessels on the coast of Maine. He hoped to bring the same excitement for learning nautical science and maritime studies on the sea to the study of reading and writing in the English classroom. When not growing with students in the classroom, his preference is still to be outside in the woods or on the water with his family and a good book.

Mr. Janik was born and raised in the Czech Republic (formerly) Czechoslovakia. About two years before the Velvet Revolution in 1989, Mr. Janik’s parents escaped the Communist regime along with him and his younger brother. Leaving everything and his older brother behind, Mr. Janik’s family started a new life in Connecticut. After attending and graduating from high school, Mr. Janik earned his degree from the University of Maine at Farmington. His first three years of teaching Health were at MSAD #40 (A.D. Gray and D.R. Gaul Middle Schools) in Waldoboro and Union. Trying to expand his horizons and expertise in teaching the secondary grade levels, he then decided to move on and ended up the following three years teaching Wellness at Lincoln/Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Loving the Midcoast area, Mr. Janik returned to Maine and added two more years of teaching back at MSAD#40. Mr. Janik has been part of Lincoln Academy since 2006. Currently, as the Wellness Department Head, Wellness Instructor and dorm parent, Mr. Janik continues to support students’ lives by encouraging them to make healthy and responsible choices, so they may lead better lives and become productive members of our community. Mr. Janik spends his free time traveling, enjoying the outdoors, fishing, and playing games. Mr. Janik’s desire is to travel the beautiful USA and visit other parts of the world to further explore other cultures.

Alison Welch was born in Connecticut but grew up in Waterloo, Belgium where she attended a French-speaking Belgian school for 5 years. Alison taught at schools in Louisiana, Connecticut and at the Carrabassett Valley Academy at Sugarloaf Mountain prior to arriving at Lincoln Academy in the fall of 1993. She lives in Hope with many four-legged friends. Alison spends a lot of time with her two sons, Jake, currently an engineering major at UMaine at Orono, and Will, a student at Maine Maine Maritime Academy. She enjoys riding and training horses, and competes them in three-phase events. Other interests include traveling, hiking, kayaking, downhill and cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and spending summers on Mooselookmeguntic Lake. She serves as an AP Reader for the Advanced Placement French Language and Culture Exam. In addition, she serves as co-chair of the LA Governance Committee.
