Lu-Shien is a self-professed foodie and adores exploring cultures by sampling street food, and engaging local traditions.

He grew up in Singapore where he had an education combining rote memory learning from Singapore schools and 3 years of self-directed study at Hong Kong International School. This unique educational experience likely enabled him to enroll at Baylor University when he was 16 years old and graduate 4 years later with a Statistics and Marketing degree.

Shortly after graduation, Lu-Shien returned to Singapore to complete national service duties then began working at his father's management consulting company as a corporate trainer and business development manager.

A few years later, Lu-Shien fired himself from that job to find his own way as a yacht delivery and charter captain, fishing guide and sailing/powerboat instructor.

In 2000, Lu-Shien married Monica and moved to live in Central Texas, working various roles with CompUSA, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car and was even a realtor and boutique caterer for a while.

This broad spectrum of cross cultural and customer service experience came together when he moved his family to Penang, Malaysia to serve an American International School as their Admissions Counselor, departing 4 years later as a Director of Admissions.

In the Summer of 2018, he moved his family from San Francisco to Newcastle to serve Lincoln Academy. His wife Monica is a dorm mother at Hall House.
