Scott Spence Biographical Information:
Current Position: Associate Head of School (2011-present) at the George School in Pennsylvania, a Quaker boarding and day school serving 540 students, grades 9-12
Scott Spence has been associated with George School since 1992 as a faculty member, Dean of Faculty/Director of Studies, and Associate Head. In his current position he oversees all aspects of academic and daily life, the athletic program, faculty hiring, supervision and professional development. Scott has experience working with the Board of Trustees and sits on the Finance Committee.
Scott is steeped in the administrative processes of Friends’ education. He has been successful because he is an excellent communicator, strategic thinker, collaborative thought leader and possesses a nimble intellect that allows him to be comfortable in school leadership. Scott has long been entrusted with communicating the mission and vision of George School in every arena from leading the faculty to representing the school in overseas recruitment.
Additional Skills and Work Experience:
Scott was a researcher at the United Nations Association for the United States prior to beginning his teaching career. Scott has served on the Trenton, New Jersey Habitat for Humanity Board of Trustees (1986-1993), the Committee on Friends Education at the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (2005-2015), and the Finance Committee of the Newtown Friends Meeting (2012-2017).
Scott and Jasmine Spence are the parents of three daughters. Lydia and Kyra are graduates of George School, and attend the University of the Arts and Barnard College, respectively. Charlotte is a junior at George School. Jasmine is pursuing her MA in Religion at Earlham School of Religion and had a career as a designer before teaching at George School.
