Books & Brunch

Books & Brunch is a book group that meets several times during the school year to discuss books over lunch. Books & Brunch is designed to promote literacy by drawing together students, faculty and staff members, administrators, and community members to talk about books in a casual and supportive environment. What makes Books & Brunch  unique is that each participant is given his or her own copy of the featured book, free of charge, to read and then keep for building a personal collection or to pass on to a friend or family member to continue the sharing of great books and to promote the growth of literacy in our school and community. The featured books are selected to represent a variety of genres and authors and to entice readers to expand their literary experiences.

The first session for the fall of 2017 features J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in celebration of the 20th anniversary of its publication and is scheduled for October 11. More info to come regarding additional Harry Potter themed activities that will take place around the date of this first Books & Brunch session.
We are thrilled to announce that we will have two author events this year!  The first will feature local author Shannon Parker and her second young adult novel that was released  on August 22 – The Rattled Bones.  The Rattled Bones is a contemporary story set in midcoast Maine with connections to the history of Malaga Island.  The main character is 17 year-old Rilla Brae, a girl who is a lobster boat captain struggling with her decision to leave Maine and her life fishing behind as she makes plans to go to college out-of-state.  From her boat, Rilla sees the ghost of a girl walking the shores of Malaga Island and is compelled to explore the connection between herself and this girl.  That meeting is scheduled for January of 2018.
Then, we will wrap up the year with nationally recognized, award winning young adult author Rodman Philbrick who will join us in May of 2018 for a program focused on his most recent book, The Big Dark.

Watch the Library Calendar on the LA Library Website for additional meeting dates or further information. Contact Cathi Howell at howell@lincolnacademy.org if you are interested in participating in Books & Brunch.
