Q. Where is Lincoln Academy located?
Lincoln Academy overlooks the “twin villages” of Damariscotta and Newcastle, Maine. These towns are on the beautiful Mid-Coast of Maine, an iconic summer destination for tourists. Students enjoy the benefits of being within walking distance of a safe, small town in coastal Maine but are only a one hour drive from the amenities and activities of Portland, and three hours drive from Boston.
Q. What is the closest major airport?
Portland International Jetport (PWM) is a one hour drive from campus. The school provides complimentary transportation to and from the airport during designated travel dates.
Q. Will Lincoln Academy help me get a visa?
We will send you a Form I-20 and a letter of introduction to facilitate your interview after you pay your deposit and return your enrollment contract. Once you have your Form I-20, you must pay your I-901 SEVIS fee and make an interview appointment at the closest U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country. For more detailed information on obtaining a visa, please follow this link.
Q. What qualities are you looking for in an applicant?
We’re looking for applicants who have goals to achieve, and who are also willing to be engaged in our community. Lincoln Academy is a warm, friendly place and offers students many opportunities to develop existing talents and explore new ones. The ideal applicant will be someone who seeks opportunities to participate in school life outside of the classroom–be it sports, drama, music, clubs, or community activities. We’re looking for applicants who appreciate natural beauty, pristine environments, and recognize the benefits of a safe, peaceful environment. While academic credentials and aptitude are pre-requisites to enrollment for international students, it is crucial for the applicant and Lincoln Academy to be a mutual fit.
Q. Should I bring my own laptop?
Students should bring a laptop when they come to Lincoln Academy. If you do not have a laptop, we do have a limited number of refurbished Chromebooks available for purchase.
Q. What is the dress code?
No uniform is required, and students may dress casually. The official dress code policy is:
Lincoln Academy is a diverse community of learners who are engaged in a variety of activities during the day, after school, and on weekends. For this reason we do not attempt a strict “dress code.” Rather, we expect our students, like the adults who work with them, to wear clothing that is neat and appropriate to the mission of our school and to the activities in which they are engaged. As a guide, clothing that would be appropriate to wear for a retail job in town would be considered appropriate during the academic day. It is important to note that clothing with slogans that promote drugs, alcohol, tobacco products, violence, or are overtly sexual or discriminatory, is considered inappropriate at any time. Lincoln Academy trusts that individual students and parents/guardians will take responsibility for using sound judgment and will reflect respect for themselves and others in dress and grooming. The Associate Head, Dean of Students, Director of Special Education or administrators designated by the Head of School reserve the right to require a student to change to more appropriate clothing.
Thank you for your interest in Lincoln Academy and for your time and effort in completing our application process. We look forward to receiving your application materials and learning more about you.
